The Western Australian Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (WAHVA) is mandatory for individuals and organisations that require a permit or order to perform any transport task as part of a commercial business or for profit within Western Australia, including interstate operators, which requires operators to comply with a minimum set of System Management Standards. Accreditation under WAHVA is achievable by a sole operator or a larger operation.
Accreditation in Western Australia is mandatory for anyone that:
- Operates B-Double or Road Train Configurations;
- Operates Truck & Trailer combinations over 42.5 tonnes gross mass;
- Requires more than four single trips (oversize or over mass) per calendar year;
- Operates under concessional loading scheme or requires annual Permit or Notice;
- Operates a RAV exceeding a width of 2.5 metres; or
- Operates a RAV exceeding a height of 4.3 metres; or
- Operates a RAV exceeding a length of 19 metres; and
- Operators who perform, transport tasks for hire or reward
The WAHVA Management Systems Standards replaces and combines the individual “modules” which are contained within the WAHVA Management Systems Standards are required to be incorporated into daily work practices, and include:
Accreditation Modules Common Standards (four management standards sharing commonality across all accreditation modules)
- Fatigue Management Module Standards
- Maintenance Management Module Standards
- Dimension and Loading Management Module Standards
Accreditation within Western Australia involves 3 mandatory modules – Fatigue Management, Maintenance Management, and Dimensions & Loading Management.
The optional module within the WAHVA Management Systems Standards, is the Mass Management Module and is only required if an operator wishes to operate within the Accredited Mass Management Scheme (AMMS).

How to Become Accredited
Acquiring a TransAssist Management System for your required accreditation is the first step, with pricing subject to variation depending on fleet size, number of Workers/Drivers and specific requirements of operators. Elite Compliance consulting will develop, implement and guide you through the Management System and your obligations under the accreditation. Once the implementation is complete, an audit on the system is required, which must be undertaken by an approved external auditor.
Once the implementation is complete and the entry audit is conducted, you may submit your application to Main Road Western Australia (MRWA). Approval time may vary and is at the discretion of MRWA.
Maintenance of procedures and documentation of records is required to comply with requirements under any of the modules accredited. Subsequent audits are also required to remain accredited as outlined under the Business Rules for the accreditation.
